Un-Belizeable!

Andrew and I had the opportunity to go on a "babymoon", which also served as a celebration of our 5-year anniversary. We went to Belize, and stayed in a small hotel on Ambergris Caye, which is an island east of the Belizean mainland. Wow is all I can say. Belize is an incredibly authentic country, which fortunately hasn't been "gringo-fied" as Andrew likes to say. Most of the touristy accommodations are situated in the midst of the Belizean residents, so you feel like you're experiencing the true culture of the country rather than being separated into your own tourist bubble. We had the opportunity to do some snorkeling one day, and who knew that the coral reef off of the coast of Belize is the second largest in the world to the Great Barrier Reef. We saw the most beautiful coral and saw all kinds of sea creatures like nurse sharks, sting rays, sea turtles, an eel and tons of beautiful fish. It was the strangest feeling to float in the water, watching all the sea life in action. I felt very connected to Harry/Ella, who is floating in water all the time!!

If anyone is looking for an authentic vacation in a place that is easy to navigate (English is the primary language) and fairly cheap, Belize is perfect! We actually won another week down there (staying in a different place) after attending one of those timeshare presentations for a couple of hours. It was totally worth it to win another free week's accommodations in Belize!! Whoo-hoo!!
